I've never really had any difficulty understanding from context what someone means. We could rename "User scenarios" to "Bouba". As long as we have a shared understanding of what we are referring to it really doesn't matter what the word is.
Sounds like your PM just wasn't very accommodating. Our stand-ups are at 9:45. We even had afternoon stand-ups when working with American colleagues on one project.
Ultimately all of these phrases and ceremonies are designed to be useful tools for improving ways of working & communication. If they're not useful to you, then change them. That's just common sense IMO.
